Robert Cowan is a Partner in McInnes Cooper’s Halifax office who practices corporate and business law with a focus on technology and intellectual property. Robert provides advice on ownership, protection, licensing of patents, trade-marks and copyright to both private and public sector organizations. He regularly prepares intellectual property agreements related to research and development and licensing. He also offers advice relating to commercial financing and mergers and acquisitions. Drawing from his experience as a former in-house lawyer for a large Nova Scotian university, Robert continues to advise Atlantic Canadian post-secondary institutions and businesses on a variety of activities, including research, education and intellectual property. He teaches intellectual property law at Dalhousie Law School.

Robert is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada and the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association. He is a member of the board of the NS College of Physiotherapists.
